Q. How should I backup my RESUMate files?

A. See the Backing Up RESUMate TechNote here: http://www.resumate.com/tn_backup.asp

Q. How do I create mailing labels & form letters?

A. After searching for the records you want to print, use the Export Wizard, found in the File/Database/Tools menu, to create a list that can then be imported into Microsoft Word. In the current version of RESUMate, the Export Wizard can create the list directly in Microsoft Excel, which simplifies the process. In previous versions of RESUMate, you'll need to have the Export Wizard save the list in CSV format, which can then be opened in Excel, or Word.

Q. I'm installing RESUMate on a network. Are there any configuration issues I should know?

A. Please see the TechNote covering disabling Opportunistic Locking, here: http://www.resumate.com/tn_oplocks.asp

Q. I have two (or more) computers running Windows Vista, and only one of them can open the RESUMate database at a time. If I close one, the other(s) can open it immediately but they cannot all be in RESUMate simultaneously. How can I fix this?

A. RESUMate uses a Microsoft Access database as its "back-end". Microsoft has confirmed that there is a problem opening an Access file on one Vista machine if it is already open on another Vista machine. This problem has been corrected in Vista Service Pack 1. You can download the Service Pack here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935791/

If you do not want to install Service Pack 1 there is also a link to a "Hotfix" along with a description of the problem. You should have your computer support person review this page, request the Hotfix, and install it:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935366

Q. I'm installing RESUMate on a network. One machine can open the shared database fine, but I get errors when a second machine tries to open the same file. Why?

A. This is most likely a problem with "Permissions". All users who will be opening a database file on another machine, whether in a peer-peer environment, or a dedicated-server environment, need to have full read/write/create/destroy rights to the entire folder where the database file resides. One way to test this outside of RESUMate is to open Notepad on a machine having problems accessing the database file. Create a short test file (just type the word test), then try saving it to the same folder where the database is. If you get an error trying this, then your permissions are not set properly. Have your network consultant adjust the permissions for this folder, and try again.

Q. When my User Stamp pastes into a memo, the date is not always formatted correctly. It's supposed to come in as day, month, then year, but at the beginning of each month it appears as month, day, then year. How can this be fixed?

A. There appears to be a problem with the standard <<Date>> User Stamp for customers who normally use the day-month-year format. This can be corrected by using the following User Stamp:
<<Now:dd-mm-yyyy>>

If you would like to include the time, you can use either:
<<Now: dd-mm-yyyy, h:Nn AM/PM>>
or
<<Now: dd-mm-yyyy, HH:Nn>>

The first format string displays the time in 12-hour format with either AM/PM following the time. The second format string displays the time in 24-hour format.

Q. Why am I getting blank pages when I try to print?

A. There may be a setting for your printer driver that needs to be changed. Close RESUMate, and open your Printers folder. Right-click on your printer icon and choose Properties. The setting you are looking for should mention TrueType fonts. It may say something like "Always use TrueType fonts", or sometimes "Download TrueType fonts as bitmaps". It may be tricky to find this setting; you might need to look around a bit (check the different tabs on the Properties window; you might need to click a Details... or Settings... button). After making sure this setting is selected, click OK to close the Printer Properties window, then re-start RESUMate.

Q. When I print a record, none of the classification (valid table) information prints out. Everything else prints just fine. How do I fix this?

A. From within RESUMate, resize one of the valid table columns on the candidate screen (you don't have to change the size too much). Next close the candidate window and re-open it. Now try printing again.

The problem only occurs if you have never resized or rearranged any columns on screen. Once you've done this, the column arrangement is "saved" and you can print normally.

If you need to print companies or job orders, you might need to repeat the steps above for those windows as well.
