FAQ's

Q. What does RESUMate do?

A. Both RESUMate Lite and RESUMate Pro automatically create an easy-to-search candidate file from resumes in your e-mail inbox, (or anywhere else on your PC or file server). With just a few clicks and no typing whatsoever, RESUMate “flips” a text resume into a database record with separate fields for name, address, phone numbers, e-mail addresses, plus industry-specific keywords of your own choosing. Every piece of data can be used for searching (including the original full text resume). In seconds, you can find all of the people in your file who match any profile you can think of.

RESUMate Professional then allows you to link your candidates to open jobs and follow them through the hiring process, noting phone and face-to-face interview dates, offer and acceptance dates, etc. Because client records in the Pro version also include records for contact persons such as hiring managers and HR managers, other functions usually associated with contact management software, such as planning, scheduling, and documenting marketing calls, can also be done.

Q. Besides searching, what else can I do with RESUMate?

A. You can keep notes of phone conversations and interviews, fill-in answers to pre-set lists of questions for interviews and reference checks, keep track of promised call backs, make a telephone call list for a day, send e-mails, print form letters and labels, export data to Excel for reports, and much, much more.

Q. How much does RESUMate cost?

A. The RESUMate Lite version is $295 for the first user. The RESUMate Professional version is $795 for the first user. Additional users, for either version, are $195 each.

Q. What about support and training?

A. RESUMate Lite comes with one half-hour of live telephone training.  RESUMate Pro comes with one hour of live telephone training. There are a number of on-line training videos at our website that will get you started with the basics.  (You're welcome to look at them before you buy.)  If you still need training after reviewing the videos, we’ll be glad to help. RESUMate is easy to learn and easy to use, even for novice computer users.  Almost certainly, the 30 minutes of free training is all the help you’ll need. We always answer technical questions promptly and free of charge.

Q. What about upgrades?

A. We release upgrades about once a year. We charge for them based on the “market value” of the new features being added. A common price point is $195 for the Lite version and $395 for the Pro version, and this one amount covers all users on a network. You are never obligated to purchase an upgrade. If you think the new features will be useful, please buy the upgrade; if you don’t think the new features justify the price, just keep using your current version. There is no penalty for skipping an upgrade one year, and then “catching up” to the current version the following year. We fully support old versions, you do not need to have the most current version to get technical help.

Q. Can I customize RESUMate?

A. RESUMate is easily customizable for any industry or business. The program comes with a number of different industry customizations, which you can easily modify yourself. Most importantly, this includes the terms and keywords the program extracts from incoming resumes. RESUMate can be set up to work for any business or recruiting specialty, in a matter of minutes.

Q. Can I import data from another program (e.g. ACT)?

A. Yes. Most database programs have an export feature that allows you to create an ASCII delimited file that RESUMate’s Import Wizard can then import. You can also import data from other database formats, such as DBF, Foxpro, and Microsoft Access. Our Import Wizard does the hard part: it lets you “map” the incoming data fields into their corresponding field locations in the RESUMate record. The whole process should take only a few minutes.

Q. Does RESUMate work with Microsoft Outlook?

A. Yes. You can import contact records from Outlook messages. More Importantly, RESUMate can create records directly from messages in Outlook folders, whether the resume is in the message itself, or is an attachment to the message. You can also send e-mails directly out of RESUMate without having to switch to Outlook first. RESUMate's built in e-mail log allows you to quickly and easily see all the messages you've ever sent or received from any person, company, or office stored in RESUMate. RESUMate is also compatible with other e-mail programs, such as Eudora and Outlook Express; however Outlook is required to create records from messages with attachments or messages in folders other than the In-Box. Outlook is also required to use the e-mail log.

Q. How many records can RESUMate handle?

A. There is no built in or pre-set limit to the number of records that can be managed by RESUMate. Most RESUMate customers have between 5,000 and 20,000 records, but many tens of thousands of records will not be a problem. We have customers with 100,000+ records; however if you're looking to store more than a few hundred thousand records, RESUMate probably isn't the right software for you.

Q. Can I “Archive” resumes after one year, or any other time frame I choose?

A. Of course, RESUMate’s search function allows you to find all records that have not been changed or created within the last year or any other time frame. You can delete records, or move them into a separate “archive” database where they will still be available for searching, but will no longer be intermingled with your current, active records.

Q. Is this a web based system?

A. RESUMate is not web based software. RESUMate is installed on your PC or network, much like Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel.

Return to Index

Q. What are the system requirements?

A. RESUMate will run on any Pentium-level machine with at least 32MB of RAM and Windows 95/98/2000/ME/XP. If your computers are less than five years old, you should be fine. Obviously, newer, faster PCs with more memory will work better.

Return to Index

Q. Does RESUMate run on a network?

A. RESUMate will run on any Windows LAN network. There is no built in limit to the number of RESUMate users on a network.

Return to Index

Q. What about remote access?

A. Any remote access service that allows you to access your office network will allow you access to RESUMate.  These include Windows Terminal Services, and remote web access programs such as GoToMyPC and PCAnywhere.

Q. I want to use RESUMate on my desktop and my laptop; do I need to buy a 2-user version?

A. No. The RESUMate license count determines only the number of simultaneous, concurrent users. If you are going to be the only user of the program, you are welcome to install RESUMate on as many PCs as you like. If you have an office with five people, only three of whom would ever be in the database at the same time, you would only need to buy a three-user license.

Return to Index

Q. What programming language is RESUMate written in?

A. RESUMate is a Visual Basic program. The database format is Microsoft Access.

Return to Index

Q. Do I need Microsoft Access installed to run RESUMate?

A. No. RESUMate does not require any other software to be installed on your PC.

Q. I have another question…
